Mamisi, September 12, 2025 – Four days of fellowship between the congregation of GKI Pniel Mniber – Supiori Utara Classis and GKI Ora Et Labora Mamisi – Windesi Classis left a deep impression on everyone involved. From September 9 to 12, 2025, the visiting group from Pniel Mniber experienced a spiritual journey filled with joy, togetherness, and reflection on God’s love that continues to be revealed to His people in Papua.
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the program began with ministry sharing and discussions across different groups in the church. The Men’s Fellowship (PKB) reflected on the important role of fathers in the life of the church and society. They were reminded that fathers are not only heads of families, but also role models of faith, movers in ministry, and supporters of social life. Their visit also coincided with the Family Enrichment Month, giving them the opportunity to deepen fellowship, build stronger brotherhood with the Mamisi PKB, and encourage one another amid life’s challenges. At the same time, the Women’s Fellowship (PW) participated in a practical workshop on making plates from palm leaf stalks, a skill that could also serve as a creative economic opportunity. The Youth Fellowship (PAM) joined music training, learning both traditional acoustic instruments and keyboard, equipping them to enrich church liturgy and channel their musical talents positively. Meanwhile, Sunday School teachers shared experiences and stories, emphasizing the importance of nurturing children’s faith from an early age as the foundation of the future church.
The next day, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the focus shifted to a joint work project—installing a concrete fence around the church. Men’s and Youth Fellowship members from both congregations worked hand in hand. The sounds of hammers and laughter blended together as sweat and effort became signs of shared love for God’s house. The fence not only secures and beautifies the church compound but also stands as a symbol of unity and a shared sense of belonging.
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the group went to the congregation’s garden for a tree-planting activity. Each tree planted was more than just greenery—it was a sign of gratitude, a symbol of hope, and a prayer for the future. Just as the trees will grow roots, branches, and fruits, so too is the faith of the congregation expected to grow strong and bear fruit in Christ. It was also a reminder that caring for creation is an inseparable part of Christian calling, ensuring that future generations may continue to enjoy God’s beautiful and fertile land.
The climax of the spiritual journey came on Friday, September 12, 2025, with a pilgrimage to historical mission sites in Windesi Classis. The first stop was Kamadiri – Windesi, where the footprints of missionary Jan Adrian Van Balen (1889) remain. Through the storytelling of Mr. J. Ruhukail, participants revisited the struggles and devotion of Van Balen and his wife, who laid the foundations of education and Christian life in the area. The journey continued to Kamiturai – Karuan, where missionary Gr. Pieter Lewakabessy ministered in 1909. From there, the Gospel spread further to Bintuni Bay through Yakati and Idoor villages. Rev. Chris Mambor passionately recounted these stories, moving the participants to awe at the sacrifice and perseverance of missionaries and local teachers who carried the Gospel forward.
On the journey back along the shoreline to Mamisi, a quiet moment of thanksgiving filled the hearts of everyone. The participants reflected on how God’s Word brought transformation—how the people of Papua, once living in darkness, were brought into the light of Christ. There was gratitude, amazement, and joy in realizing that today’s ministry continues to stand on the foundation of faith sown by those who came before.
In the end, the four days in Mamisi were not merely a series of activities but a true spiritual journey—strengthening faith, deepening fellowship, and reminding all that the love of God is still alive and at work among His people in Papua.
